Anthony Nolan’s Defend Second Transplants campaign had gathered the organisation’s biggest-ever petition, but stem cell transplant patients whose condition relapsed were still not eligible for a second chance of a transplant under NHS England rules. The campaign team needed to launch an effective, refreshed online action to generate new momentum for the campaign. And with a key decision looming, they didn't have much time.
How we helped
We worked with the Anthony Nolan campaign team to help develop a new petition, asking supporters to share their reasons for supporting the campaign, and promising to deliver them to decision-makers. We worked to develop a communucations plan for existing and new audiences, helped to improve and optimise copy, adapted their existing Engaging Networks templates to fit the campaign concept and built the action. All to a tight deadline.
Only days after the campaign launched, NHS England announced that funding for second stem cell transplants would be made available for patients who needed them. Anthony Nolan will still deliver the campaign messages collected, to show decision makers why people really care about making this this life-changing treatment available.
