What makes a website awesome?
Is it really the PHP, Python or Rhuby stuff working behind the scene that accomplishes your goals? Do you believe switching to another CMS is going to solve all the problems of your current website?
Most people think about Tools when they think about the quality of a website. But - to further use the metaphor of the title - even the greatest vehicle is not going to drive to the right street without you knowing where to go.
So how is that related to websites? The stuff that’s going on before even the first line of code is neatly embedded is more crucial than picking the right tools or frameworks. Because without information architecture, without user experience design, without usability & accessibility even the greates tool will fail miserably.
Certainly the choice of tools has a big impact on all the rest, but it’s the strategy and theoretical work that will determine the success or failure.
